I want to honor my son Matthew Slaydon. Matt is Air Force Special Forces, EOD, (bomb squad) now retired. He volunteered for a 3rd tour in Iraq and he was doing his work of making Iraqis safer in Kirkuk by defusing roadside bombs. As he examined a suspicious area for a bomb, a buried device was set off possibly remotely by someone in the crowd. The blast took his eyes and an arm and put him in the hospital at death’s door for months, and over a year of surgeries and physical therapy. Matt, you are a hero in the truest sense of the word, not because you were hurt, but because you knew the risk, and you took it, and now you embrace the changes and choose life as the new Matt. This day is for you. I am proud to be your Mom and you are the best of all of us.

Welcome to my blog! - musings and stuff about my current adventures, discoveries, and efforts, in both my personal and working life. I hope you will find something meaningful, useful or maybe even inspiring. Sharing is what life is about! Right now I am living a bit of a strange life going back and forth between Romania and Turkey. Those darn visa restrictions! I am doing all I can to settle in Romania, my beloved home away from home, the Great USA. Turkey is a beautiful haven for me during the times I must be out of Romania. I am blessed to be in the idyllic seacoast village of Selimiye. Leave me your blog link and I will come to see you too!

The baddest mo-fo I know just so happens to be my brother, I love you Matt!
Horns high for this soldier, he is a true hero for his dedication and his sacrifice he is still enduring. I wish the best to him and family.

Hi John, Thank you for the kind wishes. They are always welcome and needed.
Carolyn
A hero indeed. I cannot begin to imagine doing that job and having had the fortitude to do that, I’m sure that Matt, you will indeed recover and thrive.
I live in the UK where we too have many wounded servicemen returning home. I’m currently raising money for Help for Heroes, a charity set up to help those that return and need extra assistance.
Wishing you well.
Regards,
Andrew
