Blog crash! Imagine the horror of logging into your content rich blog to to find – 0 Posts! What? What!!! Where was all the content? – vanished into the virtual ether! A few fruitless minutes of scrambling through settings and menus produced the sinking realization – this was a real event, and not a glitch. Desperate to recreate content I pasted in an article, but I could not post -would not save.
Okay, research time. An hour on Google turned up one reference, at bigblogtechguy.com, hosted by Joel Williams, who provided the solution. The culprit? My crashed blog database. The remedy? Rebuild the database. All thanks to Joel for a clear explanation. He nailed it.
I logged on to support chat with my blog host, Host Gator, explained my dilemma, and the tech knew exactly what to do. He took one minute, then asked me to look at my blog. Behold, all was restored! Database repaired! He advised me I neither causes it, nor could have prevented it – just sometime happens. I thanked him for preventing a heart attack.
This harrowing experience had a happy ending. But I learned two things. First, I am very glad I chose Host Gator. There’s a reason for their sterling reputation. Thank goodness I took my company’s advice to host my blog with Host Gator. Their tech’s instant recognition of my problem and his fix of the crash without needding a supervisor, or worse, leading us down the wrong path, speaks highly of their training and know-how.
Second, backup! I know, I know…we hear this all the time and we think, any day now I will. Well, how about now? I just uploaded my original text content into Google docs, my graphics to Picasaweb and Photobucket, and my website videos and Power Points to esnips.com. Backup now, and if you have this database crash, take heart that it’s not fatal.
